Jason Leung-Wai

Principal Consultant
Wellington Office

A regional economic development expert, Jason has an excellent understanding of how organisations can encourage growth or change that supports positive outcomes for their communities and contributes to a successful New Zealand.

Jason’s experience and understanding allows him to ask the right questions so that the problem is defined accurately, options are analysed thoroughly, and an appropriate solution is identified.  He is a people person who will support and guide the client to achieve and deliver, often through building on the client’s own understanding and knowledge.

Jason joined MartinJenkins in 2013 after 10 years in an economic research consultancy.  Before that he contributed seven years to the public service, working for the Ministry of Economic Development.

Jason’s focus is on encouraging economic growth, particularly from a regional perspective. He has supported regions to design and implement economic development strategies. He has put together regional and industry profiles and has prepared economic impact analyses for industries, events and infrastructure.

Examples of Jason’s work include:

  • supporting the Bay of Plenty and Taranaki in developing their regional economic development strategies

  • economic impact analyses for the oil and gas, mining, and screen industries; for events such as the New Zealand International Arts Festival, Wellington on a Plate and WOMAD, and for infrastructure such as windfarms, museums and conference centres

  • working with Local Government New Zealand to develop the Local Government Economic Indicators Framework, which provides a means of identifying local government’s contribution to economic growth.
