Jo Perry

Jo has 20 years’ experience in financial analysis and regulatory economics, from a wide variety of sectors and projects. With strong communication skills and the ability to lead and manage, she’s passionate about improving the lives of New Zealanders.

Jo has extensive experience shaping and stewarding regulatory systems. She has worked in a wide range of sectors including energy, airports, dairy, and telecommunications.

Joining MartinJenkins in 2022, Jo previously spent 10 years with the Commerce Commission, most recently as the Head of the Performance and Understanding group.  Her work involved managing the Commission’s information disclosure regime and assessing the performance of regulated monopolies in infrastructure sectors, work that resulted in better outcomes for New Zealand consumers.

Before she joined the Commerce Commission, Jo worked as a consultant in both New Zealand and the UK, specialising in corporate finance, financial modelling, and data analytics. In those roles she advised organisations in sectors such as housing, education, justice, and transport.

Examples of Jo’s work

  • Economic regulation – Jo led the work to develop and improve the key regulatory rules and processes that apply to airport regulation in New Zealand, and she also managed the information disclosure regime for all regulated sectors.

  • Data analytics – As Head of the Commerce Commission’s Performance and Understanding group, Jo built a high-performing team of over 20 technical staff.  She developed the long-term strategy for managing and analysing the data collected from regulated businesses and she championed the introduction of improved data management and analytical systems.

  •  Financial modelling – Jo has 20 years’ experience in financial modelling and has worked on a wide variety of projects including valuations, mergers, regulatory price paths, and business cases. Jo’s responsibilities at the Commerce Commission also involved overseeing the creation of a dedicated financial modelling team.

Jo’s qualifications

Jo has a BCA with a major in Finance and an BSc with a major in Psychology, both from Victoria University of Wellington.
